Gorgeous denim wreath
Materials & tools you will need
- 2 pairs of jeans
- Foam (or any other resistant) wreath form
- Fabric scissors
- Circular object (for tracing)
- Hot glue gun
Step #1: Cutting your jeans
Let’s get started by cutting those jeans you have decided to give another purpose; make sure to cut right under the pockets and also at the seam, use fabric scissors to achieve a great result in this step.
Step #2: trace and cutting circles time!
Ok now that you have cut jeans the way I recommended you, be sure to spread your cut denim on a flat surface; then, use a circular pattern and chalk in order to trace circles on denim. Once you have traced the circles, cut them out using fabric scissors.
Step #3: making denim petals
This is the part of such useful project where you need to be as creative as you can, you need to fold one of those denim circles you have cut in half and with the good side of the fabric facing in. make sure your hot glue gun is hot enough, and then apply a dot of glue to the middle of the folded denim, now fold again and press; hold with your index and middle fingers until you see the denim has adhered. You will need to repeat these steps a few times more, remember to leave a denim circle untouched for every five petals you make.
Step #4: finish your denim flowers
Complete your denim flowers by applying a dot of glue to the bottom left of the denim circle; now press one of the denim petal onto the glue until it sticks to the denim circle. You will need to repeat this step for the bottom right, top right and top left and to finish, the center, the idea is that the denim circle is completely cover with denim petals. Once you have done this, repeat the process so you make enough denim flowers, in order to cover the entire wreath form.
Step #5: attach your fabulous denim flowers and display
Using your hot glue gun, apply glue to the wreath dorm and then attach each of the denim flowers you have made. Attach them until the wreath form is fully covered, done! Your denim- flowered wreath is ready to be displayed in your favorite space at home.
Eye- catching denim upholstered ottoman
Materials & tools you will need
- Different shades of denim scraps
- 18” round template (from a hard material such a large plastic platter)
- 5” round template
- Paper templates
- A pair of fabric scissors
- Sewing machine
- Ruler and a pencil
- Straight pins
- Needle and thread
Step #1: Measuring and cutting
Use a large piece of paper in order to draw out a circle, this is the moment when you guide such pattern with tour 18” circle template. Make sure to find the center of your circle; then, you will need to pick out one 30° wedge and after that add a 10-inch-long rectangle to the bottom of this wedge. Now divide the wedge from the bottom rectangle with a straight line. After you do this, once again divide the wedge into two sections and cut off about 1 inch of the uppermost apex of your wedge.
Grab another sheet of paper and draw out the individual resulting shapes; add ¼ inch seam allowance to every side of each shape, now cut your shapes and you will have your pouf templates. Keep in mind this: for each pouf template, cut out 4 each of 3 different shades of denim you may do it medium, and dark, but you can decide it base on your personal style.
Step #2: sewing time!
Pin top wedge pieces right- sides together, mix shades of denim as you have decided to. Make sure that the edges of your wedge pieces line up, then intersect the pieces and sew them together with a ¼ inch seam allowance. Once you have unfolded the wedge at the seam, the edges of the two pieces should correctly match. Now, it is time to sew the wedge to the rectangle right- sides together using a ¼ inch seam allowance.
Once you unfold it, you will have a house shape. You will need 12 shapes to make the pouf, then repeat steps 4 through 8 until you have all 12 house shapes. Pin two house shapes right sides together; it will be imperative for you to align the joint between the wedges and rectangle pieces when pinning the house, if you do not achieve this, then the whole pouf will be askew. The next step will be stitching along one side of the house shape with a ¼ inch seam allowance; press the seams once sewn, and at this point you can notice that the two house shapes sewn together no longer lie flat, this also mean that you can add the next house shape to the set of two; this process needs to be repeated until you have sewn all the house shapes together.
Step #3: keep on molding your fabulous denim ottoman
In order to finish the top of the pouf, you have to cut 5 inch circles; one out of denim and one out of another fabric scrap. Now, pin your circles right sides together and stitch them with a ½ seam allowance, strive to leave a few inches open for turning. Pin the circle denim side up, to the center top of the pouf, stitch in place. Once you do this, it is time to stuff your pouf with stuffing that makes it firm; then, sew the opening shut…done! You have made a creative ottoman.
